We are not an authorized Therma-Tru dealer, and we don’t pretend to be. We’re an independent service provider with factory-trained crews who’ve spent years learning the specific ways Therma-Tru doors fail in central Ohio’s climate - the south-facing sun that bakes dark Fiber-Classic finishes, the winter thermal cycling that cracks door sweeps, the settling slabs that knock multi-point locks out of alignment. We fix what’s wrong, not what’s convenient to sell. That’s the difference.

Why Trust TruePane Windows & Doors for Your Therma-Tru Windows & Doors?

Dale Kessler grew up in Clintonville, and his father spent thirty years doing glass work on the older homes around here - wood frames, single-pane storms, doors that swelled in August and rattled in January. Dale learned early that a door that doesn’t seat right will tell you about it every season until you do the work properly. After Columbus State’s building trades program, he spent close to three decades measuring and setting windows and doors across central Ohio. He’s the installer who shows up already knowing which side of your house takes the afternoon sun. That matters with Therma-Tru work, because sun exposure is exactly what drives a lot of fiberglass door failures.

Our technicians are background-checked and uniformed, and they know Therma-Tru hardware the way a mechanic knows a specific engine. We stock genuine Therma-Tru weatherstripping, bottom sweeps, hinges, and multi-point lock gearboxes for the door series most common around Columbus: Fiber-Classic, Smooth-Star, Pulse, and Classic-Craft. We measure every opening twice. We register both manufacturer warranty layers in writing before the truck leaves your driveway, per The Keystone Standard. And if it isn’t done right, the Done Right Promise means we make it right - no paperwork, no arguing.

We’ve been at this since 2008 as a company rooted in this community. We’re not a franchise. We hire local apprentices, train them into journeymen, and plan to be answering the phone in Columbus thirty years from now.

Common Therma-Tru Windows & Doors Problems We Fix in Columbus

These are the failures we see week after week in Columbus-area homes. They’re specific to Therma-Tru doors and common to central Ohio’s climate.

  • Worn or cracked bottom sweeps on Fiber-Classic and Smooth-Star entry doors. The vinyl or rubber sweep along the door bottom degrades from repeated compression every time the door opens and closes. After five to eight years in Columbus humidity and winter cold, the material stiffens, cracks, and lets drafts and insects through. We replace sweeps in place - no door removal, no full-slab work.
  • Multi-point lock misalignment on Pulse and Classic-Craft doors. These doors use a three-point locking system - hooks or bolts that shoot from the top, bottom, and side of the slab into the frame. When the door settles even a sixteenth of an inch, the points catch and the handle turns hard or won’t fully engage. Homeowners often think the lock is broken. Usually the slab just needs realignment. Sometimes the gearbox is stripped, which brings us to the next item.
  • Stripped gearboxes in multi-point locks. A Classic-Craft owner in Worthington called because the door suddenly wouldn’t lock at all. The gearbox inside the lock mechanism had stripped a gear - years of the slab sagging and forcing the handle against misaligned strike points. We realigned the hinges, replaced the gearbox with a genuine Therma-Tru part, and had the lock working smoothly that morning. This is a repair, not a replacement. And it’s one an authorized-only-because-they-say-so outfit will often miss.
  • Splitting or chipping at the bottom edge of fiberglass door panels. Dark, south-facing front doors in Columbus absorb summer heat directly. Over a decade or more, the fiberglass edge at the bottom of the slab - especially on Fiber-Classic Oak and Mahogany with their grain-textured surfaces - can develop small splits where the edge meets the sweep channel. Moisture gets in, the freeze-thaw cycle does the rest, and the split widens. Caught early, this is repairable. Left for a few winters, the core can waterlog, and a new slab is the honest fix.
  • Clouded decorative glass inserts on Classic-Craft doors. The insulated glass unit inside the decorative Lite frame can lose its seal after years of thermal cycling - January lows near 18°F, July highs near 85°F, and high humidity between them. Condensation between the panes means the seal is gone. We replace just the glass insert on Classic-Craft doors, saving the slab and frame.

Therma-Tru Parts & Our Repair-vs-Replace Approach

Wherever possible, we use genuine Therma-Tru parts: sweeps, weatherstripping, hinges, multi-point lock mechanisms, glass inserts. These parts mate to the original door slab exactly, because they were made for it. A generic sweep from a big-box aisle might fit, but it’ll wear unevenly and leave a gap at the threshold corner within a season. We’d rather do the work once.

For older or discontinued Therma-Tru models - and there are plenty in Columbus’s 1990s and 2000s housing stock - we source quality aftermarket parts that meet or exceed the original specification. We tell you which is which, on paper, before we order anything.

The repair-vs-replace line is simple. We repair when the slab is sound and the hardware is the failure. Sweeps, hinges, lock gearboxes, glass inserts, weatherstripping - that’s all service work, and we do it in one visit most of the time. But if the fiberglass shell is cracked through to the core, or the core has absorbed water and started to swell or delaminate, a new door slab is the honest answer. We’ll show you the damage and let you make the call with a clear number in hand. Call (888) 635-0804 and we’ll come look.

Our Therma-Tru Service Process - Step by Step

  1. 1
Diagnosis. We inspect the door slab, frame, hinges, sweep, weatherstripping, and lock mechanism. For multi-point locks, we check the reveal gap around all three sides of the slab and test the gearbox under load. We look at the door’s sun exposure, because that tells us what’ll happen next if we don’t fix the root cause.
  2. 2
Repair or install. We use genuine Therma-Tru parts whenever they exist for the model. For full-frame replacements, we pull the old unit, check the rough opening for rot or settlement - common in Columbus homes with brick veneer and older framing - and set the new door with a level Dale trusts more than the sill. If the frame is out of square, we fix the frame before we hang the slab. A door that needs caulk to seal isn’t set right.
  3. 3
Test. We open, close, lock, and unlock the door from inside and out. We check the sweep’s compression against the threshold along its full length. We check for light leaks around the weatherstripping. For multi-point locks, we lock and unlock ten times to confirm the gearbox and strike points are aligned.
  4. 4
Warranty registration. Per The Keystone Standard, we register both manufacturer warranty layers in writing, with durations stated, before the truck leaves your driveway. You get a copy. The Done Right Promise covers the workmanship - if it’s not right, we come back. No paperwork fights.

Therma-Tru Products We Service & Install in Columbus

We service and install across the Therma-Tru residential entry door line, including:

  • Fiber-Classic - Oak and Mahogany grain finishes, the most common Therma-Tru door in Columbus production-era neighborhoods.
  • Smooth-Star - smooth-face fiberglass, popular in Dublin and Hilliard tract builds from the late 1990s through the 2000s.
  • Pulse Series - Therma-Tru’s entry line with multi-point locking as standard.
  • Classic-Craft - Rustic and American Style collections, often specified in German Village-area and custom homes where wood-look depth matters.

We stock replacement sweeps, weatherstripping, hinges, multi-point gearboxes, and glass inserts for these lines locally, so most service calls finish in one visit. When a full-frame replacement is needed, we quote Therma-Tru slabs side by side with comparable manufacturer lines - Andersen, Pella, Marvin - on paper, so you see exactly what you’re buying.

We Also Service These Brands

Therma-Tru is one line we know well, but it’s not the only one. We’re an authorized installer for more than a dozen manufacturer lines, and we routinely service PGT, CGI, CWS, and ES Windows products across Columbus. If you own another brand and want a second opinion on a repair quote, we’ll give you a straight read.
