Here’s the compatibility gotcha Columbus owners hit most often: the Andersen storm door line (3000, 4000, and 8000 series) shares almost no hardware with Andersen entry or gliding doors. A hinge screw, a closer bracket, a sweep, a roller – each belongs to one series and one series only. For a door you’ll keep another fifteen years, we usually recommend OEM. For a storm door closer on a rental, the aftermarket option often does the job for less.

Signs Your Andersen Door Installation Is Failing

• Door drags or binds against the frame in summer. Columbus humidity swells wood and shifts aluminum thresholds; a door that scraped June through August has a frame that’s out of plane or a hinge that’s sagging, not a “sticky door.” We see this most on west-facing entries that bake in afternoon heat.
• Latch won’t catch without lifting or pulling the door. The strike plate has drifted, or the door slab itself has settled. Shimming the hinges usually fixes it; planing the door edge almost never does, and now you’ve got bare wood exposed.
• Cold air coming in around the sides or bottom in January. Andersen’s weatherstripping is good, but it wears. A frost line on the interior threshold or a candle flame that flickers near the jamb tells you the seal went, not the glass.
• Gliding patio door takes two hands and a hip to move. Roller cartridges wear flat on the bottom track over time, especially in Columbus where road salt gets tracked in and grinds against the bearing. Replacement rollers are specific to the door’s weight rating and wheel diameter.
• Screw holes stripped out at the hinge or strike plate. This is the one that leads to a door that will not stay shut no matter how many times you tighten the screw. We drill, dowel, and reset the hardware so the repair outlasts the original anchor.
